Reckless Hate

July 27, 2016      It happened yesterday, 125 kilometers north of Paris in the French village of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray . Two ISIS sympathizers stormed the sanctuary during a Mass said by the elderly Rev. Jacques Hamel. The attackers forced the old priest to his knees and then cut his throat as the congregation watched in what must have been unimaginable terror.  The killer's monitoring bracelet, the result of a previous arrest due to terrorist activity, was switched off , creating a four-hour window of opportunity during which his movements would not be tracked by local authorities. This, apparently, in accordance with the French criminal justice system. According to what I've read, nothing like this has ever happened before. As the Islamic State spreads further across the Western world in its active mode, we are likely going to see more of what happened in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray.  You and I, friend, have read the signs and portents in the earth. ...

Beatific Vision, Blindfolded by the Veil

July 19, 2016 BEATIFIC VISION, BLINDFOLDED BY THE VEIL Moses, descending Mt. Sinai after  seeing God's radiance (or "Shekinah") with his own two eyes       "My vision of God is dependent upon the condition of my character. My character determines whether or not truth can even be revealed to me. Before I can say, “I saw the Lord,” there must be something in my character that conforms to the likeness of God. Until I am born again and really begin to see the kingdom of God, I only see from the perspective of my own biases. What I need is God’s surgical procedure— His use of external circumstances to bring about internal purification..."   ~from My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers   at   utmost.org        So, the Beatific Vision is accessible to us only through the perspective of our own biases, the sum of which make up the condition of our character. So why is Moses' face shining like the sun in t...

Free Will vs. Predestination: A Headache-Inducing Paradox

July 8, 2016 Point: "God created things which had a free will. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong; I cannot. If a thing is free to be good it is also free to be bad. A free will is what made evil possible.  Why, then, did God, give them free will? Because free will though it makes evil possible , is also the only thing that makes possible any love and goodness or joy worth having .  A world of automata-of creatures that work like machines-would hardly be worth creating." ~ Mere Christianity   C.S. Lewis Counterpoint: "The human being is a self-propelled automaton entirely under the control of external influences. Willful and predetermined though they appear, his actions are governed not from within, but from without. He is like a float tossed about by the waves of a turbulent sea." ~Nikola Tesla ==============================...
