Niceness vs. Goodness And Why the Difference Matters

Why? Because Niceness is the insidious foe of Goodness. It seeks to be the power behind the throne of Goodness, and it often is. Niceness is the usurper who clothes himself in obsequiousness and virtue-signalling, in smiles that do not reach the eyes.  And when Niceness is not a Latex perfection mask worn by inhuman monsters, it is at last a pitiful inadequate covering for moral cowardice. An apology.  The darkest places in hell, Dante wrote, are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis (Inferno: Canto XIII) .  Being lukewarm instead of hot or cold, God spits us out of His mouth! I think it would be less of an affront to Him (and ourselves) if we were depraved instead of gorm...

Guardian Angels in a Cynical World

Catechism of the Catholic Church (1992 AD) No. 336 From infancy to death human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. “ Beside each believer stands an angel   as protector and shepherd leading him to life.” Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God.      Do you remember reciting that prayer as a child?
