Notes From Real Life / AspieWritesWhat Articles

If you don't ask this question at some point in your life, the world will out of cruel necessity have had its answer at the ready since before you were born. Which is the crueler critic, the face looking back at you in the mirror every morning or the entire motley crowd of humanity waiting for you as it waits for all strangers?

Antagonism only feeds the MSM monster. Antagonism is what it wants. The guy on the left knows that, which is why he isn't yelling in the other guy's face. But what if I told you they are they same person, and that this little meme represents our internal conflict?

Real men do cry, but not over every hurt. Only over the deep hurts, only because of the deepest unhealed wounds in our manly souls.

When you're a little guy, Dad fixes things for you, but later on Dad fixes things *with* you. And of course one of the things receiving constant adjustments during these years is you.

I believe every well-rounded adult should be capable of performing certain manual task like
That's true. You hardly know your father when you're six years old, not as the person he is and was long before you were born. You can't begin to understand adults --not even those as omnipresent as Mom dad-- until you are an adult yourself. And then you have to decide whether or not you like or agree with them as such. The parent/child dynamic never really goes away ...

But then there are the great leaders who are only great until you puncture the membrane of what their supporters prefer to believe about them. Good PR can be purchased --and easily!-- if you're crooked.

Or perhaps someone drew it sideways, in which case it is neither a 6 nor a 9 meaning they are both equally right and equally wrong. Both refuse to cross over to the other side to see it in a new way for fear of giving up what they know, what they believe and ultimately what they are. But if it is neither a 6 nor a 9, what is the "it" that was drawn sideways, and by whom?

There is stoicism and then there is that which desperately claims to be stoicism. The difference is profound but never evident to an outside observer until the shell finally cracks and the pieces cannot be reassembled as perfectly as they were.

The Chinese are not particularly fond of the number 4. But for us, is stability and symmetry and strength. Four ninja turtles, four synoptic gospels, four Beatles, four wheels on a haywagon, four watches of the night.

My existential crises feel like this, though I have already lived ten times longer than Roy Batty. Part of our immortality is living on in the minds and hearts of others after our lives are over. Death can come at any time. Life become very short indeed, if this is our perspective of it. It is very unforgiving, very much all or nothing.

That's me-- a feathered ape but without the feathers!

Quora asked:

Do you believe bad people are a product of bad society?

Yes, but they can also be products of a good society. We can be more than the unthinking sum of environmental factors molding us along the way. We can choose to reject positives influences for reasons not fully understood or to embrace what we know is good, for its own sake. In order to choose, we must believe we have the ability to choose. Learned helplessness and despair sometime render this virtually impossible for the individual in question.

What we don't do in life ... that ripples as well, since all things are connected in one web of common destiny.

I agree with the first part but not the second part. If idleness is the crown of all virtues it soon becomes our laurels, on which we sit ... and take for granted. The virtues need fresh air and exercise or they wither away in the darkness underneath that crown.

Parachutes are a practical necessity on an airplane. The true pessimist wouldn't have tried to built the first shaky proof of concept in the first place. What business did a couple of bicycle shop owners even have to even dream that dream in the first place? That was beyond optimism-- it was faith!

It's not for the faint of heart or for weaklings. I would compare a boy's journey to healthy manhood to a mountain-climber approaching the highest peak of Everest and observing with horror the frozen corpses of all those who came before him but failed. Too foolhardy, perhaps. Maybe insufficiently prepared, with substandard equipment. Maybe victims of their own poor strategy. Who knows?

Lasting Happiness in a Dark, Fallen World

Sept. 9, 2016       And what of the souls who are perfectly content in this dark, fallen world? They are the ones who revel in what this place is, and fight to defend it from those of us who labour to make life on Earth as it is in Heaven. For we happy few, there is a primordial sense of setting right what once went wrong. The Holy Spirit poured out onto the eleven apostles at Pentecost is with us now. The Great Commission still vibrates in the blood of Christ by which we are all knit together as one mystical body, transcendent of space and time. So is this the secret to lasting happiness in a dark, fallen world-- escaping into transcendence? There is a sprawling pharmacopeia   of substances which can deny the sorrowful realities of life and ease unrelenting physical pain.       Transhumanists ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transhumanism ) hope for a day when the frailty and limitations of the human condition ultimately give way to di...

Dangerous Freedom vs. Peaceful Slavery

9/18/24   His kind was not was meant to live in a cage, no matter how gilded. Thomas Jefferson famously wrote, "I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery." What holds true for men holds true for beasts, especially this king of beasts.

I Wrestle With Literature

June 19 2024   Why did Donne say "Europe" and not "England?" This poem was written long before the European Union was a thing. Also, "send not" seems to suggest someone wealthy and in the habit of sending servants off on errands to do this and that, as in : "Don't bother sending a servant to investigate for whom the funeral mass is being conducted, because **it is you** in that casket no matter who the decedent may have been in life. Every time, the corpse has your face inside the casket. It is you who has died. 06/29/24 Such a man has a conscience that won't let him enjoy what his base nature wants and at the same time forces him to endure what is "good for him." Yeah, that sounds about right.   .
